Dr. Aaron J. Miller was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1929. He received an Associate of Science degree from Oklahoma A&M College, with a major in electronics technology. He went on to work as an electronics technician for the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) from 1950-51 and again from 1953-55, serving as a ground radar officer for the United States Air Force in between, from 1951-53. He returned to college in Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in Trade and Industrial Education in 1957.
Dr. A.J. Miller’s first teaching position was at Oklahoma State University Technical Institute, as an Instructor/Assistant Professor in Electronics Technology from 1955-60. Upon receipt of his M.S degree in 1960 in Trade and Industrial Education, also from Oklahoma State University, he became Department Head of the Technical Education Department at the institution. He served as Director of Vocational Education for the Oklahoma City Public School System from 1964-66. He received a doctoral degree from Oklahoma State University in 1966.
Dr. Miller began his association with The Ohio State University in 1966, taking a position as Coordinator of Training and Development at the National Center for Research in Vocational Education, a post he held until 1972. During his tenure at the Center he was project director for one of the first national initiatives in Career Education. Dr. Miller then moved into the faculty ranks as Associate Professor in the Vocational-Technical Education Department. He then served in a variety of capacities, including department head and Acting Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. He became a full professor in 1982 and was awarded emeritus faculty status in 1993.
Dr. Miller has a long service record associated with vocational/career and technical education, having been involved with the American Vocational Association (AVA), the National Association of Industrial and Technical Teacher Educators (NAITTE), the University Council for Vocational Education and the ERIC Clearinghouse on Vocational Education. An author and contributor to more than 30 publications, he has also served as a consultant to many countries on issues related to vocational/career and technical education, including the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates.
After retirement from The Ohio State University, Dr. Miller served as Commissioner for the national accrediting commission, the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) from 1997-2001. He currently resides in Hilliard, Ohio.
